I See You

A friend of mine surprised me the other day with his hidden talent for game design. Using Game Maker Studio, Bryce Maciel developed a unique horror experience that stands out among the monotone belch of current generation game design. I See You is an unsettling foray into a dark hospital where the player is stalked by an unnamed assailant, and shadows of nightmarish beings. The stalker communicates with you from the start using pop-up notifications that act as an eerie and disturbing tutorial in this solitary hell. The atmosphere is comparative to being home alone and finding out that an intruder has been watching and leaving notes to inform you of his malicious intent. However this is not your home, and you’re wearing out your welcome as the hospital evolves grotesquely the deeper you wander in its’ macabre architecture.

Just finished watching Shut Up and Play the Hits…. Wow! LCD Soundsystem is already being missed and it’s only been like a year. Damn wish I would have ever had an opportunity to see them live. Guess I’ll just have to enjoy the music and keep it on repeat

This year has all in all been a good year in all forms of music. With new releases from The Black Keys, Beach House, and a plethora of other big names there was plenty of good new stuff coming out this last year. Once again this list is in no particular order, just a bunch of albums i really enjoyed this past year.

1. Japandroids “Celebration Rock” - This album is pure FUN. Honestly i can’t think of an album that took me more by surprise, and in all the right ways. These two dudes really rock and are just some regular guys. Putting the Garage back into “Garage Rock”, hopefully they will come out with some more bombastic tracks in the coming year.

Standout tracks: “The Nights of Wine and Roses” “The House That Heaven Built”

2. The Vaccines “Come of Age” - The Vaccines approach their second album from a place of certainties, they know what they want to do and do it flawlessly. It starts out full of energy and barely comes down from that point. This British band will deffinitly be making a name for themselves in the coming years.

Standout tracks : “No Hope” “Teenage Icon” “Aftershave Ocean”

3.Cloud Nothings “Attack on Memory”- Probably my pick for album of the year. Every track is full of Dylan Baldi’s inner problems and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve listened to this cd on repeat for most of the year and can’t stop. Bombastic, Fun, Sad, and Introspective all at once, with some amazing instrumentations. The guitar alone is worth a listen. “Stay Useless” will become the song of a new age of grunge rockers who just want some time. Honestly I hope more music starts to sound like this. Cloud Nothings released a perfect album and Dylan Baldi still has plenty left in him, as it seems.

Standout tracks: Just listen to the whole cd, its EPIC.

4. Jack White “Blunderbuss” - Jack White’s debut on his own sounds amazing. Its like The White Stripes only at the same time it has its own sounds. Jack has been experimenting with southern twang and that blues sound and really gets it down on this cd. No real surprises here, just a solid album by one of musics most talented artists. If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen.

Standout tracks: “Love interruption” “I’m Shakin’”

My favorite Rap this year...

So i have been thinking this whole month that this has been an amazing year in rap music. New releases from Nas to Killer Mike to El-P to Danny Brown. Overall i think this has been an amazing year in rap music so here are my favourite albums (these are in no particular order and i’ll be doing one for other albums as well) and Mixtapes.

1. Joey Bada$$ “1999”/”Rejex” - What can i say?? This mother fucker can Rap and is the best thing that has come out since Black Hippy started doing there thing a few years ago. Mr. Bada$$ slays it on these 2 mixtapes over beats from everyone in his crew to Mf Doom. The DOOM beats are some of my favourite of his collection and Joey kills it on these songs.

Standouts: “Hardknock” “World Domination”

2. Killer Mike “Rap Music” - Killer Mike comes out with my favourite album by a southerner in a while. He kills it on almost every song and El-P does some serious work to bring out Mike’s persona. This album has some crazy features and the first song alone features T.I., Bun. B and Trouble. This album is very deep and I’ve been listening to it for pretty much the whole year.

Standouts: “Big Beast” “Reagan”

3. Kendrick Lamar “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City” - I’m just going to assume everyone has heard this album already (its already being dubbed an instant classic as well as being called “underwhelming”). Honestly i think this is one of the strongest albums of the year, Kendrick slays it on almost every single track. He goes back and forth between Gangster and Conscious without ever stepping a beat. He honestly is one of the most talented in the game today and is just getting started. This album has every thing : Big Guests? Check (Dr. Dre and Mary J. Blige??? ARE U KIDDING ME?) Big Producers? Check (everything from Dr. Dre, Just Blaze and even a Pharell track) Amazing Flow? Check. Being completely involved in the present as well as past? Check. This may be the best album of the entire year, and i’ve barely listened to it…

Standouts: EVERY TRACK especially “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst” (8 mins of Kendrick killing it? yes please.)

Well that is a short list of my favourite rap of the year. Honorable mentions :
-Aesop Rock “Skelethon”
-Pro Era “Peep: The aPROcalypse”
-El-P “Cancer 4 Cure”
